Primary noise
First of all sorry, I'm shure this has been posted 100's of times. I'm new to HD, have a 07 fxstc w/ 7900 miles and has lately been producing something of a chain sound, not too bad just something I can hear even when riding, which seems to be coming from mid/back of primary and starts after about 15 minutes of riding. Is this "normal" for fxstc, is it a chain tensioner problem or something even more serious. After warmed up can still hear it in gaer w/ clutch in and in neutral. Any help would be appreciated.

Your bike should have the auto primary tensioner in it so I doubt it would be a loose primary chain. Harley started putting these in the softails in 07. It is hard to say what it is without hearing it. Check for loose heat shields, or anything else loose. Loose parts can play tricks on people, that is a fact.

Very true Doc!!! I had the worst rattling sound from which I thought was my dash but closer inspection came to be a little screw under my clutch lever. There is a good chance it might be something else.

My wife's '07 Deluxe started making a whirring sound seemingly from the primary after about 15 to 20 minutes of riding. Took it to the Harley shop last week and they said it was normal. The whirring started after about 10,000 miles.

change the oil to something better. I use Bel Ray for the trans and no wine or clank and I can find neutral. I use Motor FactoryŽ Primary Case Lube in the primary. because Amsoil has gone up so much I just switched to Mobil 1 for vtwin and it works as good. I have 50,000 miles in about 2.5 years and it runs great and no debris in the oil changes.
