Angry Broke bearings

ALOHA ALL,

Went out this past saturday for my usual night ride on my days off. While riding I hit what I taught was a pothole, turned out to be a broken and sinking metal manhole cover. Didnt see it till I hit the damn thing due it was dark area on the street. All I felt was hard thump(F!@#)on my front wheel. Rode on heard a little noise front tire but didn't think anything was wrong. Pulled over at a nearby 7/Eleven and checked my bike over. No obvious signs of damage to front rim or tire, or anything on the front end. Later riding home started to hear loud grinding noises from front wheel. I had to crawl home slowly, fearing the front wheel was going seize up or something. Checked wheel when I got home and could see metal shavings in the grease around bearings in hub. Needless to say I broke my bearings in my front hub. This was confirmed the other day when I got my bike down to my local H.D. dealer. They didnt have my bearings in stock. So I'm just waiting till repairs are done. Guess my guardian bell was working that night. Needless to say we got some bad streets out here in Honolulu. I just glad I didn't break anything worse.

Damn dude. Glad you didn't nose over, woulda sucked bigtime. Kinda weird that the bearing would go without any damage to the rim. Maybe they're just tougher than I thought...

I've pretty much gotten into the habit of not riding at night anymore. I don't like to drive my Corvette at night either. Too much 'trash' in the streets. Glad you didn't go down with a hit like that.

must have been the old style bearing. the new seals ones would not do that unless it was bad for another reason like mine was. hd wants 80 for my bearings and fatbook wants 12 for the pair

Im running a 21" front fat daddy 50's from Ride Wright wheels. This a very solid rim. There was very minor rim damage. But only noticible when they placed the rim on the balancer. Other then that cannot rides good.
