Default Upgrading the Twin Cam 88B

Hello all, I am obviously new here, but have read through a few times...

I have a 2003 FLSTC, 88B motor, mostly stock, just has gear drive cams with Andrews #260 cams. My mechanic just informed me that the rotor has destroyed my crank at the young age of only 49,000 miles. So the day has finally come that the motor comes out, and the inches go in... I told him I was thinking in the direction of 103 inches since a crank would need to be purchased anyway.

What I am looking for is advice on any aspect of this, questions I should ask my mechanic, or anything I should or should not do for this build, as I have no experience with this kind of thing.

Thanks in advance!

You could go bigger then 103 if your going to bore and stroke it. What exactly happend to the crank?

The compensator has come loose twice now. Quite a few miles went by the first time, the second time my new, and much better, mechanic tried a new compensator and rotor, but did note that with the wear in the crank spline that it may or may not survive.... it did not survive. It ate another rotor, and he says the damaged crank can not be repaired- the splines are beat up from the rotor and compensator being loose. I do not want to go so big that reliability becomes an issue, so I thought 103 was about tops for that. I don't race or drive it hard, but I do appreciate some nice response on the throttle.

I talked to my mechanic today. He is going to get me pricing on some options... He is a little hesitant to set me up with a 103 kit because he doesn't like the length of the stroke. He is going to look at some options for a larger bore and a shorter stroke. He is talking about using either S&S or Dark Horse. He will be getting a crank that is welded- said the pinned ones aren't strong enough. He is suggesting an S&S 585G cam(I already have the gear drive), a 45mm Mikuni carb, and he will be re-working the heads and valves in his own shop. I told him to also quote me a 6 speed gearset for the trans, and see about sending the jugs out to be diamond cut.
