done it myself last year on my heritage. do it yourself for sure. no real issues to watch for. just follow the instructions and you'll be done in no time. its a great thing to have, i put a luggage rack on with mine too.
Just make sure you put the spacers the way the instructions call for and you should be fine. As I recall the torx bolts were pretty tight. So just make sure you have the bit seated square and all the way in so you don't strip them out.

+1 on seating the bit square, and make absolutely sure you have the right size first. Sounds like a no-brainer, but they are very easy to round off and then it's easy-out time.

did the one piece black sissy bar on my 'Lo last week. I also did the directional relocation kit. The quick release mounts were a snap, I replaced the chrome bolts (and all of the fender support torx bolts) with black cap head grade 8's from Lowes. Just make sure that when you install the mounts to your fender supports that you have the rear ones with the "slot" away from the support. When you look at the parts, you will know what I mean. Oh, and a little blue loctite will keep em from getting loose.
Since I got the one piece bar, my next project will be to fashion a rear facing tray so that I can support luggage on the back of the rack if necessary. I love the options available wiht this bar...It fits over my motherwells rack so if I am riding Solo I can strap luggage over the MW rack. It is a great sissy bar for two up riding, and when I complete the rear tray, I can still carry luggage on the back while riding two-up.
Mine fit snug with no problems. Have heard that with others, especially if the fender mounts and lights were messed with, that you could end up with a rattle. Add or subtract a shim or washer or two for a snug fit. It will be nice and tight if you have to spread the side plates a little to get tension when you snap on the sissy bar.
I ran into a huge problem on the kit when I installed it on mine. i run the 150/80 18 rear tire and the bolts that comes in the kit was way to long and they ended up hitting my brand new tire. Will took out the old grinder and problem was solved. But make sure you have tire clearance for sure. And use locktight on the nuts and bolts.
