Default Fat Boy Lo Axle Nut Cover Problem

I got the parts list from HD's website for the P&A tricked out Fat Boy Lo and purchased the gloss black rear axle nut covers (#43422-09) from this list and installed them. No problem. Went on a trip and while checking out the bike the right side axle cover is scraped all to hell and back! It seems there is not enough clearance between the stock mufflers and the axle nut cover when the suspension moves. It scraped up the bike side of my top muffler also. Dealer took them back and refunded my purchase price. The parts manager said he was going to follow up with HD on this clearance issue to find out if they know of the problem.

Anyone else had this problem? If you plan on buying these with stock mufflers or any exhaust that goes past the axle nut I would make sure to double check the clearance!

Change your pipes and eliminate the problem.

+1 Seems like a no brainer. Stock pipes look terrible anyway.

Changing the pipes IS a no brainer answer. The point is - HD produces a part that is supposed to work on their product and WOW, lo and behold it doesn't! So what is HD gonna do about it? I will post their answer to this problem when the dealer gets back to me. Until then, anyone out there who doesn't have the $ to change the pipes right away, don't install the right side axle nut cover.

What are stock pipes? Did they come with the bike?
