Default Primary Lube level

Hi All,
I changed the Primary lube in my 01 Fat Boy last night (installed Red Line V Twin Primary Lube) and I'm a little concerned about the fill level. The shop manual says use 26 ozs but then says to fill to the bottom edge of the clutch housing. I ended up putting 29 ozs in and I still was a little below the housing. I checked the lube that came out (which was professionally installed) and it measured close to a liter.

I took a short test ride and everything seemed great but I was wondering if I should have added the last three ozs of lube or am I making a mountain out of a mole hill?

I believe your fine where it is now. I fill until it touches the the bottom edge of housing, with the bike on a lift.

You are fine at 26. It would lubricate at 13 since it looks like a shower in there since the chain dips way down at the tensioner. The extra is more for cooling and reserve lest it happened to start leaking in its old age. Most people put too much since they misread the level in the manual. You do not want the actual clutch plates under the oil. Check out my pictures and you will see what I mean if you have not looked inside or have a service manual

I had similar thing on my 01 FXST last month, the book said 3/4 of a quart would work but it took 1.3 quarts to reach the clutch lower edge (with bike on stand of course) .

bike running fine since then, had some bleeding between the engine/tran behind the rear cylinder (under oil tank) but that has always been there .
