Default New Seat

I need advice on a seat. I have an 05 Deluxe and I cannot go on a ride for more than 3 hours without a sore butt. I have heard that the stock Harley seats are not much good and I am considering a Sundowner Deep Bucket seat. This seat is advertised as more padding with lower back support. I do plan on occasionally hauling a passenger but I really want long ride comfort. I have had a corbin years ago and thought it was on the firm side. Any advice???[IMG][/IMG]

If you like the look, consider having your seat reworked.

I had mine done by an upholstery shop that does motorcycle saddles as well.
Cost about $120 if I remember right. Took it from a 30min seat to a 12 hour seat.
Several members have done the same. The sundowner gets great reviews, but I don't like the look.
There is a new sundowner for the Deluxe that lets you keep the luggage rack and is 1 piece 2 up.

Nikonf8 had a lot of trouble with the new Corbin deluxe seat.

Mine is still softening up after 10k+miles and seems to get better every week.

I just put on a mustang super touring seat and what a difference. I do not get any aches or pains at all compared to about 3 hours of riding with the original seat. It doesn't look as cool but it works.

I got the sundowner seat for my fatboy and ended up returning it. Right off the bat, i didn't like the looks, I thought it was going to have stitching that matched the stock fatboy seat which it didn't. When i put it on and sat on it, it pushed me too far forward and wasn't comfortable with the feet on the floorboards. It was only when I had my legs stretched out on the highway pegs that it was comfortable. The extra lower back support was nice in this position. But all that comfort went away as soon as you had to drive in traffic or stop at a light.

I have an 05 Deluxe and had the butt burn after 2-3 hours in the saddle. Bought a kidney belt and a gel pad and it helped a little. But then got the sundowner seat and its much better. The seat has a large backrest which supports the tailbone. The bucket prevents you from sliding around on the seat while braking and taking off. I am 5'6" so it puts me right on the controls and allows a more flatfooted position at stoplights. The front tongue of the seat is narrow allowing your legs to be straight at a stop. I like the Sundowner. It was $325 at the dealer.

If you do a lot of serious long range riding the cost of the mustang or corbin might be worth it. They are big money, about double the sundowner.

I have a 05 Fatboy Sundowner for sale in the parts forum that came off my buddys wifes Fatboy. He bought a road king and she went back to the cooler looking single seat supplied with the anniversary model. It will fit the Deluxe but does not have the basketweave on the side. $175 you pay shipping.

I agree, by the way that the Sundowner, or any two up seat for that matter does not look as cool as the regular seat.

I was thinking of buying the Sundowner until I heard it pushed you forward. No thanks. I found the Tall-boy seat to be a great compromise. It is as wide as the Sundowner, but pushes you back and up slightly which is great for my inseam. I'm 6'2". Furthermore, I have yet to have any discomfort in the 1K+ miles since I have had it.

The downside is the look of the seat. It's all relative, but it's not great looking...not awful, but not great. But when I'm on it, no one notices the seat..and since I'd rather be riding than staring at my bike while parked, it is not an issue to me.

I have an '05 Deluxe and the comfort was a huge issue with the stock seat. I went with Corbin for the Deluxe and let me say that it is everything plus some. I got the backrest in chrome and that makes it so comfortable on rides more than 100 miles. If I putt around town I take it off, even though I kinda like the way it looks. The whole seat is just quality, and I think looks much better then the stock seat. My other option was to take it to a shop for modification, I hear that works really good--to me though I wanted something more custom.

P.S. The Corbin does take you back about an inch as well which for me (6 feet tall) was a huge plus.

Had mine reworked too. It's still breaking in...you can feel it believe it or not.
Your butt will harden up too after you ride a bit.

Hubby has a Mustang on his VTX and still complains after a while about sore butt...he doesn't ride as much as I do. I too have heard corbins are rather stiff.

The 07 Heritage seat will also fit on the Deluxe if you want to try that.
