Default heritage sissy bar backrest help

Howdy,

I bought the wider, studded backrest today for the heritage classic, the one that matches the seat. Is that medallion double sided tape over the screw? Gently pry it off? Is it reusable?

I did a search for this topic but couldn't find it. I know I've read about this before on here.

Thanks in advance for the help guys. It's much appreciated.

Yes, it's taped as I recall. It's reusable, but you may need some double-sided tape of your own. Mine's on there, but not too securely. If you're thinking of changing it out, only a few of H-D's after-market medallions will cover the holes under the stocker.

Hang on....I ran into a situation the other day. My Sister told me that I needed something "extra" on the back of my sissybar. So, I went to the dealership and did some looking around and found a piece that would do the trick.....or so I thought. So, when I got home, I broke out my trusty heat gun and heated up that small piece that you are talking about. It does not use double-sided tape to secure it. And further more, IT'S PLASTIC!!! Found this out when I went to pry it off after heating it up and it was soft and it BENT! Totally useless now!

To make matters worse, the piece that I bought would not cover up the bolt! So, I got to thinking and saw that there was the same type of covering on my tank bib. So, I took my tank bib off, flipped it over, removed the small pad that was there to protect the paint on the tank and popped that sucker off. So, I now have the replacement piece that can cover the bolt on the back of my sissybar, but what about the tank bib? Take a look at my sig pic and look closely at my tank bib.....TAAAADAAAA!!!!!

Looks cool, doesn't it? (bigger/better pics of it in my photo gallery)

So, to answer your question, rk, it is reusable....no double-sided tape on mine and be careful taking it off too.

Philip, I think you have the same type of tank bib I have, right?

It just prys off. Has a couple of "studs" that go into holes on the upright.

I have an 05 flstci The medallion is held on with (2) self locking clips.
I bought it used, and had to buy a replacement sissbar and concho kit. In the concho kit (91850-00) there are 2 self locking fasteners (part no 5221) along with the factory madallion.
So, the factory medallion may have the self locking fasteners, and your new medallion may use double sided tape.
