Hey guys.....new here. I just picked up a tank bra for my XL 1200C (I was scratching the clearcoat a bit). With regard to the installation, the front strap wraps underneith the tank, but not into the chanel for the backbar correct? Took it on and off a few times, but I don't think the elastic strap is long enough to make it into the backbar chanel. Thanks for the help.
The dealer was nice enough to put mine on when I bought the bike...and I'm not sure what the backbar channel is. But if a close-up picture would help, let me know. I'd be happy to go snap one with the digital camera and send it to you.
A picture would be great! I'm trying to figure out what the elastic strap looks like under the tank (to make sure I did it right). The chanel I was refering to is the chanel that runs lengthwise down the underside of the tank....so the tank can rest on the bar. Thanks for the help!
i have a tank bra but dont use it..i used to have a bra on my mustang gt years ago and it wore the paint off around the edges and the paint faided from the sun and when i took the bra off there were scratches and nice shiny paint underneath..so im a little skepticle about using the one i have on my sporty..(it was given to me when i bought the bike)
Well, I shoulda just got off my lazy butt and went and looked at it. The front strap is simple (and I have a 4.5 gallon tank.) All they did was stretch it over the tank to the front and then push the elastic down around the edges of the tank until the elastic was in the groove where the tank meets the frame. Here are some pics...but black on black doesn't give much contrast.
Thanks for the pics.....that's exactly what I was looking for!
Good. Glad that is what you needed.
I'm fairly short and I sit so far forward on my bikes, I'm forever scratching them with the zippers on my jackets. So, the bra damaging the clear coat is still a better trade-off for me. I like the looks of the bra too. I had a bra on my Acura years ago and a tank strap on my last bike and never really had problems. And with the bike, that was in NM with the dust!
