Default drive belt longevity

I have over 20k on my 08 heritage.I've just noticed a sound like a slipping belt maybe .when I accelerate from 1st to 2nd. but once I'm up to speed it doesn't make that sound could this be worn belt? or loose belt or somthing ? Could this be a clutch problem? any suggestions or commets are appreciated.

How is your belt tension? Check the sprockets and belt teeth next. Have you damaged either, are you missing teeth, is there something stuck inside belt? It is a good idea to look your drive-belt over regularly. Manual says sprocket should not etch with light, knife-pressure, but mine has etched since new. I have seen posts of people getting over 50K, the dealer said 100K, so who really knows? Don't wait too long, it is a 6hr repair job, if you know what you are doing.

Or you can do what I did......Which I wouldn't advise unless you are like me and enjoy fiddling with **** every so often.

52K and counting on my belt. Far better than the hassle of a chain any day. No need to lube or clean, and hopefully no need to ever replace.

Hey thanks for all the info was very helpful give me a place to start looking.but i found the problem. after finding out i needed rear brakes badly and replacing them while i had it in the air i was checking out the wheel and found i had a rear wheel bearing going out .two hours later and $100.00 I had new rear brake pads and new rear wheel bearings. pretty easy fix would have been easier if it wasn't 105 degrees here in dallas. thanks again.and yea I don't mind fiddlin with **** if i know i can put it back the way it came!

the bearings should last over 100k if they are sealed. i have 56k on the belt and bearing and all is fine. just did a 3200 ride last week at 80 mph

I have 71000 on my drive belt and it looks just fine. It requires no maintenance, the only time you ever adjust it is when you replace the tire.

Oh yeah, you'll have to replace eventually. My friend had to replace his @ 70k, bad thing is you'll have to do it all, sprockets and belt by that time.
