Importing to Canada
Anybody imported a bike into Canada lately? I heard they've stiffened up the rules.
‘Modifications vary by model listed and may include: fender, tail lamps, odometer/speedometer and labels. ’
Is there a list of what has to be done to what bikes?

I did it once. I sold my deuce to a guy in Toronto when I lived in Toronto for 5 yrs ( $6500.00 more that I paid for it new). Had to take it to the border and pay the gst/pst ( he paid for it really). He needed to change it to KM from MPH and nothing more that I know of.
Now living back in the US.

I imported an 04 Deuce two weeks ago and the rules are the same as they were two years ago. Paper work (copy) send to US Customs 72 hours before importing to Canada.
US customs will check the serial number on the bike compare to the orginal title about 5 minutes before they send you to the Canadian side.
You can get an recall letter from the US dealer for Canada customs before coming across will save you time. If you are not buying from a dealer have the bike owner get one at the dealer before buying the bike.
At Canada customs you will pay the RIV fee about $220 and 5% tax. A form will be sent to you have the inspection done at Canadian Tire. This check take about 30 seconds, no need for a kpm speedo mine past with a mph, but they have the stickers.
After the inspection you can get the licence plate and pay the rest of the tax (8%).
Painless

I do remember that the guy that bought mine in Toronto had to have it converted to KM from MPH or he could not get it inspected. This was from the HD shop ( I forgot the name) in Toronto by the bridge. If I remember it was something like $500.00 for him but this was back in 2006. Have fun at customs as they can be real PIA at times. I found that the rainbow bridge is the better one if you are in that area.

My 2007 fatboy came in from the USA too. I was thinking about bringing in a newer one. When I got on the Registrar of Imported Vehicles site. There was a blurb (in red) saving that a Harley delership has to do the inspections now and that Modifications vary by model listed and may include: fender, tail lamps, odometer/speedometer and labels.
My 08 Deluxe came from the states originally, I bought it private in Canada but it came with all the inspection paper work and proof taxes paid etc. and a sticker on the frame down tube. My speedo is still in MPH
I had my inspection done at Canadian Tire last week, the RIV list the few models that has Modifications needed that are to be done by an HD dealers.
"i did it just last month... if its 15 years or older all you have to do is pay the tax man..." This quote is not true as any year Harley can be imported and you just pay the tax plus the $220 RIV fee. If you can get a dealer to sell you a new Harley you can import it.
