Default Taking out Baffles

Need some experience from those of you that have taken out baffles before. I have the Quite Baffels installed in my Big Shots Staggered. I took the screws out that hold the baffles in place as well as taking off the slash end tips. I can pull the baffles out just a little and then they will not budge. Any tips to make them come out easier? I have the stock baffles and want to put them in to see if there is a difference in sound. Got the idea to do this when I heard a Softail Standard with stock baffles in his Big Shots Staggered pipes. They were louder than mine.

Brian,

Sounds like your baffles are a little snug. I hav used the engine to push mine out before. Try starting the bike and give it a couple quick revs and see if that will break them loose. Good luck getting those buggers out.

I took out the same baffles. I made sure the egine was cool first and I twisted them back and forth instead of pulling. When all else fails you can try a little WD40 . . . good luck. I think you will like the sound, but your neighbors won't!

Cool! Thanks for the ideas. Never thought about trying "engine blast" Will try using WD-40 on cool pipes to see if that helps. Thanks again!

I have the exact pipes and baffles--I took one set of quiet baffles out, put the standard baffles in and found that my '04 FXST low end torque was less. I bought another set of quiet baffles , installed them and will stay with them--like the torque and sound.
It is a B _ _ _ H to get them out--I used carb cleaner, WD40, brake cleaner and FINALLY broke them loose. BE CAREFUL when starting the engine after using flamables to loosten the baffles.

Good advise Johneb48....."Hey dude, stand behind the bike while I start it up and let me know how it sounds....." You mentioned that your low end torque was less....was that after rejetting the carb? Or does that even have to happen when replacing the quite baffles with stock ones?

Brian,
No, I had to rejet the carb only once --changing the baffles doesn't make that much difference in fuel/air mix.

No problem, jackhammer. Sanford does have a nice ride. That color scheme gives it a classic look.
