Hi all! I'm the proud papa of a 1998 fatboy. Im her 3rd owner. Why a 98? Well, I been waiting a very long time to get a harley. Either had the money and nothing avaible. OR!! Everything under the sun was out there and I didnt have a dime to my name. Well, everything came togather, timeing was right and the price was perfect and in a couple days I had cash in hand after finding her.
mods...........
1-The previous owner added SE slip-ons. GREAT SOUND!
2-replaced the carb with proper porting and mains.
other than that the bike is stock.
Now the fun question!
Is there a CHEAP way to make improvents to performance? Its a 1340, but there doesnt seem to be a lot of power like I have heard about the EVO engines having. I dont want a rocket, but I would like it performing the way it should. Please dont recommend the dealer. The 4th word up there negates that from happining. I can turn a wrench, but could use a little guidance.
Nice find. Get rid of the slip ons and xover pipe, go with a complete new system. 2-1 will give you better low end and midrange torque. Add a set of cams. You should be able to do those two things for around 1500.00.
Def agree with losing the X-pipe and slip-ons! I like the FatCat exhaust on a Fatboy, and it's a 2-into-1 system. And one more suggestion... and it's FREE!!! Take the reflectors off the front & rear! Makes a world of difference! Congrats, and keep us posted on the new addition to the family!
Thank you, thank you. All suggestions will be considered. Unfortunately I have to wait for the winter season to begin before I can start makin mods on the bike. All the cash I had went to GET her. In the winter I can make oodles for mods!!
BUT! All FREE suggestions will be done in a timely manner.
I was wondering about the crossover piece. Does it effect performance? If it doesnt really need to be there, why did harley put it there?
Thats about the biggest question I have.
First thing I want to get is a 2 into 1 exhaust. I had a chance to hear on the other day and I like the sound it has.
get pipes for sure, but they won't do what you want if you're not getting enough air. find a good K&N filter, and make sure your carb is properly jetted... You really need all three of those things working together in order for your bike to run good.
