So I go out to the shop tonight and see my floorboard cover on the left side is halfway off the front is still attached but the back is free. The nipple is still there but I can't push it back on help
Damn I'm tired of hearing this! It's the same advise over and over.......Spit on the nipple, my friend........and then push it in slow and firm. Sometimes a little lube may be needed.......I prefer Astroglide.....uh, I mean dish soap. Oh crap, now i"m getting confused and mixing things up, sorry!
haha, I just knew when I saw the title it had to be a Deluxe. My wife has had hers come off twice. Both times the left side. First time it was while going down the road and a car following ran over it smashing the chrome. I took it into our dealer and told them I had read that this was common on the Deluxes. They said no problem and replaced it. Good for them.
Second time it happened she realized it before it came all the way off. Like the others said you just tug on those nipples till they holler. Make sure you get them all in and that they're all seated right. Else they're liable to pop off again soon.
I was washing the bike for the 1st time last weekend and noticed the floorboard loose on the right side when i got under there the 2 forward nipples had popped took about 60 secs to push them back through but now that i know this is a common problem I keep an eye on them
This was my biggest gripe with those boards, that and I dont think they look very good. Ended up replacing them with the half moon boards. Mine were constantly coming off from scraping them. The way the top plate edge curves over the bottom plate make it easy to pop off.
There was a dog at the end of my road that use to like to run at me. I had just checked all the nipples so I know they were all in and was leaving the house. Well, like every other day the dog came running at me and guess he forgot to stop this time. Long story short I didnt see the dog for about 3 months. No idea what he hurt cause I didnt stop. All I know is I hit him hard enough to knock all the nipples out and I ended up stopping up the road to put them back in. The board was completely detached.
I use a small pair of needlenose pliers to pull the nipple through the hole. Just gotta be careful not to pull too hard... Nice ride there Rooster. I ride down to O'burg (Jamison/St. Matthews) area about every other month. I'll wave if I see you on the road.
