Default Drain the tank?

I have a 2010 FLSTC that will be transported from Oregon to Virginia this Friday February 25th and the shipping company wants me to drain the tank to 1/8 capacity. Can anybody here give me some tips on how to do that?

The old-timer in me would tell you to stick a plastic tube in the tank, suck on the end until you just taste gas, and then stick the end in a gas can and let the gas be siphoned out. The new, safety minded me would tell you to do pretty much the same thing but with an approved siphon tube from Wally World, Autozone, etc.

yeah they make tons of siphons for this type of deal now.. on old carb systems with a petcock that can turn the fuel on/off, you could just disconnect the fuel line in the off position, run a hose from the petcock into a jug, and turn the fuel on and that'd do it for you down to the reserver tank.. the EFI models don't have that, so i'd suggest getting about 6 feet of fish-tank air hose, a nice tiny hose that'll keep things clean.. stick one end in the bottom of the tank and suck on the other.. all you need to do is suck the gay until it's about 4" away from the end of the hose and it should create a good seal for the siphon to start working, then just stick the hose in a gas can.
Word of warning.. gas will numb your lips, but in my honest opinion, Premium tastes a hell of alot better than regular.

Yeah, I thought about that after the question was posted. I was looking for a petcock but could not find any. Siphon tube is looking like the way to do it.

Thanks!

You can get a small siphon tube and bulb from WalMart - I think they are like $5.00 and pretty much throw away quality .. I always keep one around for draining my saws and pressure washers etc ...

PS: Nice move ... from one nice place to another. Lots of beautiful rides in VA ... and the nearby Shenandoah mountains ... enjoy!

Siphons can be purchased at your local TSC for only a few bucks.
