Softail
I picked a Fatboy lo for my first bike and love it. Nothing to do with the 96B. However the more you read about them, not handling like a Dyna or Bagger and not as comfortable as a Bagger, the more I think it is about the look. Apart from the motor which some prefer what is it about the softail makes you buy one
I had a 92 Sportster that I got for dirt cheap as a learning bike back in 2007, but I was 5'10, 230lbs (power lifter, not potato chipper) riding a 475lb bike.. it just wasn't a good fit, so I needed something bigger.
But I didn't want a bagger because 1) I don't have the space to store it, and 2) I didn't need something THAT big.. so that ruled out all the glides and the road king..
So that narrowed me down to a Dyna and a Softail. It was between a FatBob and a FatBoy (Lo), because in each of those classes those were the two I was drawn to the most. And there was only about a $1500 difference in price between the two. But when I started discussing this with my friends (an external view) they all screamed at me that I didn't "fit" right on the FatBob, so I went with the Lo. The way I fit into the seat for my body type just seems to meld with the styling of the bike and it's like we're made for each other..
I thought (after coming off a sportster) that it would be too heavy and almost impossible to handle in some tighter turns, but I can whip her down almost to the ground and just glide through everything.. and even though she's still pretty stock (except for the pipes, intake, and some smoked lenses) she turns heads everywhere..
It didn't really have to do with the engine, since the Dyna's come with the 96 and the Lo has the 96b (although the lower vibrations help), but it was more about what was built for my body... so i'm extraordinarily happy with my choice.

Handling, ride, Ergo, and leather..
Handles better than the touring bikes I've rode as we ride mostly Town and country and state hi-ways, very little super slab.
Rides as good in IMO as the RK I've ridden and U can't beat the sit in the bike feeling rather than on top of it.
Being a little older,
I love the Leather and Fringe look.
Love the shield and bags,, we do a lot of 1/2 day rides and we have never not had enough room for storage of extra items. Coats, pants, vest, hats, cameras, water, even snacks couple times, ETC.
Wife did want to buy a rocking chair one time,,, Ahhhh, that wont fit in them there bags.

I had a Street Glide that I traded for a Heritage. I like the balanced motor for its smoothness, the ride is much better, and I wanted the ole skool look of my Heritage. It was nice to have a radio but did not use it much. I tour with my Heritage and won't look back....
