Default PM grips

All- just got some PM XL contours. Awesome grips...anyway, i came across the install instructions on the pm site. Thought id post for anyone interested. Hope the link works below because im posting from my iphone.

Since I have the Contour XL grips on my ride, thought I'd add my comments.
  1. The grips in the PDF are the standard Renthal Contours, not the Contour XLs.. The installation seems the same though.
  2. The instructions don't make any note about the ferrules on the throttle side, which seems to be the biggest stumbling block for people. I found it useful to wad up some masking tape where the throttle and idle cables go into the sleeves, to avoid the possibility of losing them in there.
  3. If replacing stock grips (like in the PDF), I found it useful on the clutch side to cut the rubber retainer ring off the stock grip. since the PMs just butt-fit. It makes mo difference functionally, but I reuse the cutoff ring to keep dirt and moisture from getting inside the housing.
  4. Finally, I hadn't thought of dimpling the bar where the set screw joins (like they describe). I don't know that I would trust it though, as I've seen too many people have the left grip come off at an inopportune time. I used grip glue and the set screws... and I used blue Loctite, not red.
I'm sure their method works fine, but I found my way to be just as good (maybe better), and it's easier (no punch or drill required). They've been on for many thousands of miles, and aren't going anywhere.
