Default Brake light location?

If I have a brake light and running light set up on my axle mounted license plate holder, do I need one on my rear fender in NY to be legal. I would think a brake light set up is good as long as there is one set up, regardless of where it is located on the rear of the bike?

The letter of the law is that a brake light is required to be visible directly from the rear of the motorcycle... I would assume that if side mounted license plates are legal than that is the only brake light required.

In my opinion... the brighter the better and the more lights back there the better. I'd rather be seen than be cool looking.

In Illinois the light has to be center of the bike. I have a side mount plate with tail light, I run both lights. I am legal with the stock center light and the second light on the plate makes me move visable.

I had this same set-up but just installed a new long shot rear fender and will be using my plate light which is quite big anyway.
