Default Battery light problem

I am new to this forum so please bear with me. I am having a problem with my bike and I would like to know if someone can help me. I have a 2008 Deluxe with 42,000 miles and we did a 500 mile run and half way through my engine light and the battery light came on. It shut off after a few minutes and I made it home safely. Then I drove about 150 miles and about half through they came on again and stayed on all the way home. My question is does anyone know what would cause these lights to come on and if so how do I fix it. Thank you.

I was just searching for this exact same problem. When I shifted through the gears it would clear but on a steady run they would both come back on until I shifted again. Could it be a loose battery cable? Anyone have an idea.

My wild guess here is that your codes will show that the charging system has a fault in it... somewhere there is a loose connection or a charging system failure about to happen.

When I searched yesterday, this was the first thread to come up. I went through the rest of the 10 pages to make sure. I went out first thing this morning and took it all apart. Man were the battery terminals corroded. You could not even tell that the positive cable was copper. I cleaned it all up with sand paper and put it all back together. When I fired the bike up, only the check engine light came on. But only for a few seconds then went out. I rode and parked a couple of times and the same thing. I am guessing that it will take a few stat ups to clear the EFI. Ride safe.

Can I check the charging system on a bike the same way you check a car? If I unhook one of the cables while it is running, will that technique work like it does with a car?
