Default Electrical Issue

Ok, about 2 months ago I was having issues with my 2011 FXDWG starting up. I noticed that the battery was actually the OEM battery that came with the bike (I'm the 2nd owner) and went for a ride one day and it completely died. During that time I had the check engine light and the battery light come on. I did the code check on the display and it came back with the b1121 and b1122 codes. After the battery change the codes disappeared but now I'm seeing part numbers come up. The part numbers are for the TSM and the speedometer.
PN. 68921-07 and PN. 67478-90. I called my local steelership and they said I can bring it in of course to pin point the problem at $95/hr. I called a few other local shops and they're telling me because of what is coming up and they don't have the HD diagnostic machine that it may be best to take it to HD. I'm pretty handy and have no problem doing minor work but because it may be an electrical issue it has me worried and I'd like peace of mind.
To add to this, back in 2015 I changed my bars out and was getting the check engine light that would come on for a brief sec, then go away, the 6 gear light would come on real quick and shut out when not in 6th. I haven't had that problem in a long time either. Any knowledge or suggestions would be helpful before I take it to HD.

It doesn't sound like the bike is not running well, just getting codes?
Your battery is 7 years old. Time to get a new one. Put it in the bike and make sure the ground cable connection is tight and clean.
Let us know if it's better or not.

Ok, today came home checked the battery and everything is clean and tight.
I started the bike up, and took it up the block, engine and battery light came on again. Now the only code I'm getting is PO562 with 32919-07C. Also still have the other PN numbers but no other codes. This is driving me nuts.

You need to eliminate the simple stuff. Get your battery load tested. It's probably toast but at least find out if it's good or not.

Battery was replaced a couple days after thanksgiving. So I know the battery is good. Looking through the Clymer manual now trying to figure it out. Appreciate any and all suggestions though.

After some more reading looks like I need to test the charging system. Check the stator and voltage regulator. I hope it's something simple. I really don't want to take the to the stealership but worse case scenario that's what I'll do.

Battery and Engine light together will usually light up if you have a stator problem.
Part number is always displayed after running Diagnostics, this is normal. Just the bike telling you if it has a TSM or TSSM in it.

Quick 5 min check for a Stator issue: unplug it, 3 pin connector of front of motor just to the left of (and leads to) the voltage reg, measure across each of the 3 windings to look for an open or short, as well as measure each pin to Chassis for same. Cant remember off the top of my head the winding values but its in your manual somewhere.

Hope this helps, Good luck !

the factory service manual does not state the stater output voltage, but I remember on my Suzuki GS1000 back in the early 80's, it said should be approx 75vac at 2k rpm, it had a very similar type of charging system as does the HD system.

Simple..Pull battery again. Charge couple days on a maintenance charger and if it has the check amp rating on it, carry it in and have it checked.

Some of your brief engine code lights sound like stored codes.

After replacing battery, clear codes and make sure they are clear.

Report back what you get. This time of year pretty much makes it a requirement of keeping the maintance charger on all the time.
The electrical system and alarm only draw milamps but in cool or cold weather, you will be lucky it will crank long enough to catch and low voltage at cranking kills spark voltage also.

The batteries also tend to loosen connections on them. Especially Softails. My brand new battery would not start in December after setting two months.

Do you give the new battery a full charge prior to installation? Take the bike out, after clearing all codes, for good two hour ride, no stopping no starts and see if the codes come back. The new battery may not be getting a deep charge on it.
