I've never had a blow out and don't know anyone who has...would you share your experiences if you have? (For those who disect these threads for alternate meanings...I'm talking about a tire blow out on a motorcycle.)
I'm certain this must have been discussed in the past but I cannot find a thread on this....
As a teenager, I had a front tire blow while going 60 mph. (Honda CL350)
Scared the chit out of me, but I let off the throttle and stayed away from the brakes. Ended up in the soft shoulder and kept it upright.
I am interested in hearing answers too, Just heared a fellow from one of the clubs I ride with got hurt really bad with a front blow-out.
I am more interested in 'tube' tires blow out, as tubeless is much better in this manner.
Had a rear blow out on a small bike when I was a teenager at about 60. Scary as Hell but like a previous post said I just stayed off the brakes and it worked out OK. Never had a front blow out and hope I never do.
Had a rear go out on the Autobahn at about 70-80
Got off the throttle and stayed away from the brake
Sucked seat up my a-hole about two inches, left a permanent star on the seat.
The real bitch was getting the bike to the right side of the road across 3 lane of Bahn.
Had a rear tire blow out on my old sport bike when I was doing 75-80. Just slowly let off the gas. Started tapping the front brake and stayed away from down shifting and the rear brake. I was able to come to a stop and pushed it off on the shoulder. It was pretty scary.
Had one back in the late 70's. Was on Orange ave downtown Orlando Florida during busy morning traffic. Just got done punching it through a yellow light (probably doing 55 mph or so) when the front started shaking violently and steering me into oncoming traffic. Nothing I could do but lay the 750 Honda down. I remember seeing tires on a car roll right by my face. Very close to getting run over. Minor road rash is all I got. Extemely fortunate. Happened so fast. In my situation there was absolutely no contolling the bike whatsoever. Turned out that I ran over a shard (bottom of broken beer bottle) of glass and it puched a big 'ol hole in the tire causing very rapid loss of pressure. Wouldn't want to go through something like that again. Makes me cringe just thinking about it!
I was behind my buddy when he ran over a mudflap and sliced the sidewall on his front tire. We went to the nearest dealership and had a new tire and tube installed. Took off down the road again and 20 miles later his front tire went flat, and I mean instantly flat, doing 70. He went into a tank slapper and managed to get it to the shoulder. Dealer trailered him back and when the tire was inspected it turns out the tube had split wide open at a seam.
Didn't see THAT coming...................
He's one lucky sob.
