Hey folks,
I have an 06 heirtage softail. I'm 5 4' and need a little help getting to my shifter. have the huge stock solo on it now but way to big for me. Reaching the ground is not an issue. I'm lowered it quite Reaching the shifter is not bad but I would feel better with a close seat. Besides getting one done at corbin does anyone know of any cool looking solo close seats that I can just order online ? .....but.... I love the ol' nostalgic looking solo styles . Any info is greatly appreciated.
A stock Deluxe seat would look pretty cool on your bike and move you up a little. Try sitting on a Deluxe at your local HD shop and see how it fits. they are always on ebay.
I'm 5' 2" I had the same issue. I talked to the several service guys at the seat manufactures, I found out famed seat maker Danny Grey makes a seat call "Speedcradle" that will lower you 1" and push you forward 2". With my stock seat I would slide back during acceleration. The Speedcradle keeps you close at the control. Seat was originally designed for speed freaks but works great for the shorter rider.
I'm also 5'4" and I use to use a Corbin Close Solo seat in my Deluxe and helps me alot - reach and height. I use the Corbin seat for about 100 miles then I replace it with my reshaped and reupholstered OEM seat. I like them both but I like the Nostalgic look of the OEM seat.
Check with HD, they make "Reach" seats for shorter riders. Not sure if there is one for your bike, but it won't cost to find out what else is out there for you.
LePera also makes a variety of seats termed "up front" models that will move you closer to the tank. They'll do custom covers, stitching, inserts, etc. and their prices are fair.
In the softail section you want to look at the last two pages that have pics of the seats with a blue background. These are the seats for 2006 and later HD models.
I have had Corbin and HD replacement seats on my bike . But until I found Chuck at C & C Seats www.ccseats.com I did not have a all around comfortable and good looking seat that I was really happy with.
Give him a call or e mail, They have a good selection of seats or will custom anything you need. Great prices and quality.
If you can use a two up seat the Harley Sundowner Seat will solve your problem. It is very deep and moves you forward and holds you there. High back support and a narrow tongue to allow your feet to touch the ground without having the seat against your legs.
The cost is reasonable at $300 and the back portion of the seat is good for long trips. I am 5'6" and its is much more comfortable for me than the stock seat.
I have a LePera Monterey solo on my softail and it moves me forward about an inch and down about an inch. It also has the high back so that you do not slide backward when you accelerate. I also went for the gel pad at the same time. I like this seat a lot. I am 5' 91/2 inches, but my legs are short, 28-29 inch inseam. I also lowered the rear by one inch. Best of all worlds!
