Dead battery
Anyone have an idea. The old lady left her key on the other day while washing her bike 2010 DELUXE and the battery is flat i put the hd trickle charger on overnite, but it still isn't charged any answers. Besides she ruined her battery. Its a brand new bike . I'm going to have to spank her hard, she'll probably like it !
It's hard to totally ruin a new battery.
Check all of the connections first, I had a loose connection on the positive terminal and it would cause the main circuit breaker to pop.
After you are sure everything is tight hook up the charge again and then spank her.

put a regular old stlye battery charger on it .
the new digital ones will not recognize a batttery with less than 8 volts in it..
if you dont have one ,or cant get one , put another good battery in parallel with it then charge it up

Don't jump it. heybaylor is correct about battery tenders they will not charge a dead battery. I killed mine once, and had to hook it up to a normal charger for a couple of hours to get enough of a charge in it, for the tender to work. The battery lasted a couple years afterwards.

Really Bad Idea. The charging system on a Harley is not meant to charge a battery. It's just meant to run the lights, accessories and ignition and top off the battery from the last cranking of the starter.
Trying to charge a battery with the bike is a common way to learn how to replace your stator. You get to see how the windings melt together.
Make sure all your connections are good. Make sure the main fuse didn't pop, put the charger on manual to get it to throw voltage at the battery for a while but don't do this for too long or you can warp the plates. Once it has enough charge in it, move it over to automatic and see if you can get it to charge to 100%. Running a battery low or dead is a good way to kill it. The plates warp causing it to not hold a charge and the electrolyte adheres to the wrong surfaces causing it to not be able to take a full charge. The former and you have to replace the battery while the latter sometimes can be fixed with a trickle charge over a long time.
Now to fix the original problem. Get her in the habit of turning off the bike with the ignition switch and not the kill switch. The handlebar switch is really made for killing the engine when you're lying on your side or in trouble with the flick of your thumb. Needless to say, I never use mine.

Tenders are not meant to charge a dead battery, there meant to keep one up..
get a small charger and leave it on for at least a day and see what happens.
dont jump it or put a large car booster charger on it either,, it'll get the inside leads to hot.

funny, I just looked at 4 different HD owners manuals and though "HD does not recommend" jumping a battery, all 4 give a procedure for it. Leads me to believe you're are probably not going to inadvertantly split an atom or cause any other cataclysmic event or there would be the you are going to die if you try this warning. Your bike, your call.
