Default Progressive 422 preload setting ?

Folks,

I am putting 422's on the bike, lowering it to 1.5" I ride soloe (180 with gear on) or with wife (she is 140 with gear on).

Do you suggest I go with the lightest (standard setup ) or turn it in a couple of notches ?

I would increase the pre load a little. If you only ride solo I would say leave it.But when adding your passenger it would be best to have it set up for that. Its not hard to adjust it.But it does require some time and work.

I thought I better increase it as well either way since I am running the shocks low, I hope it is less harsher than the lowering bolts

I dropped mine the full adjustment (2"+) and rolled in 2 turns of preload.. Hit it right off the bat.. Of course I had a little help when I friend said he had to put 1.5 turns in.. I'm 225 and even with my 125 gf on the back there's no difference.. I think it rides good..

Thanks Rail,
This is really helpful, do you think that full down is a harsher ride than with bolt ? or there is a difference ?

Regards

This is a fairly subjective topic (one man’s comfort level is not necessarily that of another), but we can give a solid baseline. Typically we suggest about ¾ inch of sag for 1 up and two up would be just a little less. Sounds like this thread has you headed in the right direction, but ¾ sag is a great place for your application.

I just had them installed, took a 40Miles ride, the bike is lowered just a few threads from all the way, it is lower than what it was with the lowering studs, it rides slightly better on bumbs, not sure yet about cornering.. and 2 up.. I had it set soft as it was really harsh any other way.

It's much better than bolts even at full down.. I have no problem with the ride.. Once I did the shocks though I had to change oil in the forks as they seemed spongey afterwards..

My front is 2" down with progressive as well, My rear is now almost 1.5" down..
I noticed I grind more on the corners, so for sure it is lower than before, but the Ride quality is improved as long as the bumbs are not big enough, hitting big bumps fast still jolts the bike. but it is really lowered. and I was picking every bump in the road today .
Next test in the week end is two up.
