Default Who lowered their Super Glide?

I've got an 05 SG.
Thinking about lowering the front and rear.
Don't want to sacrifice comfort and handling.

What's the best way to drop the bike and maintain or improve the ride?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Randy

I lowered my rear end using the HD lowering kit, brought it down one inch. Only problem is riding 2 up I was bottoming out, so I have the dealer adjusting the firmness while I have it stored. Never thought about lowering the front...think I'd rather have it raked out more if anything.

Good luck

I dropped the back of my bike a little over an inch and a quarter. I did it the least expensive way I could, by sending out the HD shocks and having the springs cut down from 12.5" to 11.5". It still handles very well, is comfortable solo riding and there is a little loss travel, but not very noticeable unless you hit one of the deep bomb crater holes in the Thruway or I-287 in the springtime. What it has made clear to me is that my new shocks that'll be bought and installed prior to this season will be 11.5" also, Progressive 440's most likely.

I didn't want to spend about $375.00 on a lowered set of shocks only to find out that they were too low, too uncomfortable, etc. Cost was $69.00 + UPS ground shipping. You can check the place I had my work done at: skullenterprises.com There was about a week turnaround time and good quality on the cut. BTW, I left the front of the '04 FXD intact.

Are lowering blocks for shocks any good? I bought my bike used and it has them. Am I sacrificing ride quality by using them?

I have lowered my bike so that my wife can start riding on her own. The thing I did was bougth a set of low roder shocks and jacked up the bike enough so I could lower the front end. Buy loosening the torq bolts on the forks and then lowering the bike on the jack. I had measured the distance from the original setting to about 5/8 of an inch lower.

Installed a set of progressive 11" 412's not to many miles on them yet but seem good but anytime you loose an inch of travel your ride will suffer a little. With the upgrade to better shocks I would compare the ride about the same they ran me $249 i think from dennis kirk.

Steve

Ya you should use a lift when installing I didnt and one of the bolts stripped out on me.

I have an 05 Wide Glide and lowered the front and back. I used the Premium shocks from HD as I liked the looks of those better so to me it justified spending the extra cash. I also used the lowering kit from HD for the front. It sits about 1.5 inches lower both front and rear. Looks good, handles great.

I had an '05 FXDI and lowered the front and rear an inch...I used the HD low rear shock kit and the HD profile low front suspension...it was an inch and no more...at 5'7" seat height is a priority...it was one of the reasons I sold the the '05 FXDI and went with the '06 low rider. I noticed no difference in ride or handling on the '05 Super Glide...but it should be noted...my wife won't ride motorcycles so I ride solo and at my peak weight during football/couch season I might hit 160lbs...I'm sure that works to my advantage in terms of ride and the fact I never bottomed out.
