So I head into my local Costco this morning to pick up a few things. I come back out to find an elderly gentleman admiring my bike. We strike up a conversation and I find out he used to ride alot when he was younger down in the southern US. He asks me what I used to clean my windshield. Warm soap and water I reply. He tells me to try Lemon Pledge as that's all he used to use. When I get home I decide to try it as bugs from my 400 km run yesterday would be a good test.
I sprayed it on and let is soak for 5 mins as he suggested. Took a clean rag and with very little elbow grease (stubborn ones) it came off incredibly easy. I then took a 2nd clean rag and buffed off the residue. The windshield looks awesome. Crystal clear.

I got a free sample of that Purpleslice and seemed to clean pretty good. Not really a polish as much as a smudge cleaner but worked on all surfaces, even my plastic ridin glasses. Hard to find it though.
+1 on the Lemon Pledge. I use it on the whole bike. It does work great on the windshield. I also use it on my model airplanes.
I do the same. Top to bottom. Works great on chrome, paint, plastic and only a fraction of the price of other cleaners. Also, keep a damp cloth in a ziploc bag for quick touch-ups on the road.
Lemon pledge is great for windshields but on the rest of the bike I wouldn't use the lemon version. The fragrance used does contain some acids that will cause pitting and wear on the shiny surfaces over time. Regular Pledge however will not.
