My wife's and son took her 2000 Deuce trike conversion with Champion reverse to a charity ride Sunday morning. On the way there she hit a smooth but deep bump in the rode to the point they were both lifted off the seat and she hears a clunk, then another clunk. I went down and picked up the trike, while driving it to the trailer you would move about 10 feet and feel a hesitation and then it would do it again, and kept repeating the same pattern almost like a tooth was missing in a gear (guess on my part). It did the same thing when I pulled it into the barn/garage.
The distinctive clunk we all love when shifting into gear has disappeared, no more clunk and slight lurch when engaged cold, I have not tried going into second gear for fear of totally frying the tranny. The tranny has been giving me trouble for the last two riding seasons (grinding when cold and finding excessive metal shaving on the drain plug), tried switching from Harley transmission oil to Mobil one gear lube and this spring to Redline shockproof heavy. I have no ideal were to even start to find out what is exactly wrong with it. I do have the shop manual but have never done any type of tranny work on the bike. Any guidance/ help would be greatly appreciated.
