I have a fatboy lo with 7000 miles. I have already changed the rear at 4000 miles and will be ready to change both in another 1k. The hot florida coquina based roads eat up stock dunlops. I need an update on what people are having sucess with. Thanks
What yr is Ur bike??
With the 200 tire most members is only getting 4-6k on them
With the 150 its usually 9-12k.
I still run the HD lops 150-80-16 that was std on mine, buy them from Dennis Kirk and get 10-11k on rears.
I think I'll try a set of the Elite 3,this fall when I change again. supposed to get about 30% more
I have the same problem. I have a Softail Custom with the 200 rear and my first tire didnt make it past 3600 miles. now i am at 7000 and i need a new one. I am in south Florida.
I have 13.5K on my 08 Train and have ate up a few dunlops and a shinko. Switched to Metzelers and have not looked back. The stock rear got a nail right at 3K, The shinko I put on (was in a bind) lasted 4K and that is stretching it. The Next dunlop went right at 5K. I am on the Metzeler ME 880 and can tell a huge difference. That is my .02
I have a 2010 Fatboy Lo with 11,500 miles. I just replaced with Pirelli Night Dragon's and like these tires much better. Tire pressure is key to longevity. You should check tire pressure at least once a week.
I just had a new rear tire put on today. I am riding a '10 Heritage and got about 5500 each on the first 2 Dunlops (stock 150-80-16) and just replaced a Metzler that I got 6400 miles out of. Honestly, I didn't see all the big deal difference many of other people rave about with the Metzler-not saying it was bad, just didn't seem to live up to the hype in my mind. I ran it at 50 psi per their website and it seemed a little slicker to me than the Dunlops, but I did get a few more miles out of it and it was a better price. I ran the Metzler down to the cord, which I had not done on the Dunlops and may explain some of the mileage difference. I put a Dunlop back on it this time and may try something different next time around. Had some Avon Venoms on a Dyna years back. Liked the way they handled, but didn't keep the bike long after the tires, so I can't say anything about mileage.
new Pirelli Night Dragons on my 2004 Night Train. Replaced original Dunlops, way hardened & slippery, yet plenty of stress. They feel great all around.
