I am going to purchase a 12V receptacle for recharging a cell phone (05 Heritage). Does anyone know if the security system will need to be re-programmed if the battery is disconnected? Thanks.

According to the manual, only parts of the Security System must be reprogrammed. First is the alarm sensitivity (where you select extremely low, low, medium or high). Also, if you opt for auto-alarming, that must be reprogrammed.
