Default Hard to get neutral

Went on a long ride to the Sierras and through Yosemite this past weekend. Bike ran great, except for the high altitude (carb bike) and the fact after riding for several hours I was not able to put the trans in neutral. When the engine was off no problem finding neutral. When the bike was relatively cool, no problem.

Do you think maybe the clutch needs to be adjsuted?

Redline V-Twin trans oil with shockproof has fixed many a sticky shifter. IMHO.

I'll try the Redline. I should correct the title of the thread to "Impossible to get Neutral".

Yep,Redline is all I run and you can tell a big difference. I have a hard time finding neutral also, but haven't done the first service when I will switch over to Redline.

Default Finding Neutral

Run Redline Shockproof Heavy in the transmission. This solved my problem.

I disagree with the Redline as in my opinion it cased a main tranny bearing failure in my ride. I don't want to argue semantics or anything but after seeing my tranny and that caked up redline inside of it and the bearings after pulling it apart I will never use the Shockproof again.

I now sue Mobil 1 gear oil. I think you should try adjusting your clutch on the cable first and see if that does the trick. IF not, adjsut the clutch pack.

I found that just changing the trans fluid to new synthetic fluids made a big difference. I personally use Amsoil but I have used Mobile one too with great success.

Too much primary fluid will cause that also.

mobil 1 gear oil in the tranny. and run ATF in the primary solved all my never ever even after praying and cussing able to find neutral with bike running problems. Even running the HD primary oil it was impossible to get neutral. and the ATF has everything the wet clutches needs, along with the bearings. it is the fluid in almost all manual gearboxes, and transfer cases for the past 10 yrs or more.
Plus, if it leaks you get those pretty red spots on the concrete. lol

Make sure your clutch is properly adjusted and your primary lube is at the correct level, should eliminate the problem.
