Rode the Tail of the Dragon today...

Here's a dissenting view. I've done the Tail twice now. It was fun, but I think it's a hell of a lot more fun if you're on a sport bike. Some of the turns are so sharp, you're in first and second gear. I had more fun on the nearby Cherokawa Skyway, or whatever the hell they call it. I like high speed turns and elevation much more than low speed. Just my two cents...

I just got back from the dragon. It was great and has to be done if you ever get close. On my Lo I drug the boards when I brought the bike home AND being 6'3" I changed to 3"+ forwards. On the dragon I scraped the ends off of both pegs, scraped a hole on the bottom of my swingarm bag and squared off the bottom of my brake pedal. You can have a lot of fun on the dragon even if you aren't on a sport bike,, but ride at your limit. There was somebody that when down up there every day.
If your in the area and have the time you also need to check out the cherohala skyway, great views, 5300ft in elevation and plenty of high speed sweepers if you want them. Moonshiner 28 is just south of the dragon and a great ride also (check out Fontana Dam).
