Default Turn signal issue??

When I use my turn signals I have to keep my thumb on them even thru the turn. I have been told that they should stay on an go off automatically. True? I have a 1995 Flstc. I took off the seats and looked at Clymers manual, not factory cuz I ain't got one, and noticed that there are wires going from terminal number 6. If I am reading right this looks like a blank spot. I would guess that it is for a tachometer??? I come to that idea as the blink-rate seems to increase with engine rpm and never really completely goes off rather it dims but gets really bright almost right away.
Any answers would be awesome.
Thanks,
Tom

I've got a 94 fxstc. And yes they should go off after 200 feet. The dim you see is the running light filament that stays on. I'm not sure where this sensor is located though.

i have ot do the same. but, i run a turn/tail/brake module. which replaces the factory turn signal module. the switches in these bikes are momentary only. so they either start a timer, or a tilt inclination sensor or whatever they call it today. in your wiring right at the base of the rear fender under the seat you should see plug that leads to the rear lights. follow that back towards the main harness and you will se the turn module. i would check that first.
