Default Dot 5 Color?

Just changed brake lines on my Train. I had 2 bottles of Harley Davidson Dot 5 brake fluid. The fluid in the first bottle I opened was Purple but the color of the fluid in the second bottle was Amber. Both bottles were stamped Dot 5 and unopened. I could understand color differences between brands but not from a single manufacturer.

What gives? Can anyone shed some light on this?

The purple is the way it is supposed to look. The amber is old, ditch it.

I've only seen purple for DOT 5. I'd trash the amber colored stuff.

Its so you know when the old is bleed out of the system.Expl you got one color in it and flush bleed the system with new its so you know the old is out of system. All high temp break fluid i have ever used comes in two diff colors.

DOT 5 comes new purple. After it gets old it turns gold. The old stuff you take out is probly gold color, still dot 5.

use the new purple stuff... skip the gold. its either old or mislabeled ....

if ya mix 5 with either 3 or 4 it will jello up in your system, then you gotta buy new stuff. can't flush it out after it does that.
