My Bro bought an '02 Standard Softail for $9K...nothing wrong with it and had a custom paint job. You could find something newer than and 85....possibly mid to late 90's for that price.

Im in Houston also. Pretty sure I saw that 85 ST your speaking of. Think it was in Conroe. About a week ago I picked up a 97 fatboy for $5400. I literally bought it half hour after it was posted. Just need to keep your eyes open and move fast. Keep cash in hand

 

I bought a 94 springer last night. Speedo shows 13k miles. Not sure how accurate but it's cleaner than my roadstar was. S&S carb, screaming eagle ignition, mustang seat. Rides like a caddy compared to my chopper. I love it.
