Hey guys, I have a 2005 nightrain that Im starting to have some trouble starting. It began few months ago where it started cranking slow. It sat for a week or 2 while I installed and new open primary on it. I know that did not affect anything cuz I rode it few dozen times. I installed a new dry cell battery the other day and still the same.
I turn the ign on and all lights come on and bright as normal, I hit the start button and the starter takes off but will not even crank it 1 revolution and stops and clicks. I notice the milage display goes crazy with some funky numbers until I let the button go. any ideas? I have cleaned grounds, changed starter relay, bimetal circut breaker, looked all over for broken wires...no dice
sounds like a bad connection positive or negitive terminals. Could also be a bad wire voltage drop the cables have heard that some of the cables connections ends seperate from the cable if you test with a light looks good till a load is placed on them
Yea, have taken the cables (battery posi/neg) and wire brushed everything. I took the housing off the handlebar and mad sure nothing was arching and did not see anything there either. I did put longer bars on it but the wires fit ok I pulled them through the harness lil bit to give them some slack..
Sounds like the battery??? Could it be you got a crappy one? If you have a friend with a softail I'd yank his battery out and slap it in yours just to try wouldn't take more then 5min and could be some as simple as that? What kind of open belt did you install is the jackshaft maybe binding? We just took of my BDL and replace my trans pulley and some seals and I swear it sounds different when it starts now... lol Good luck brother.
