MainDrive, those tanks are a work of art. I'm the guy that emailed you a couple of days ago, I'll keep you in mind as an option - not sure what I'll wind up doing yet. I just test fit my new Nash Midget Gimp bars on the bike today, and now it REALLY needs a smaller tank:

Maindrive:

I was comparing this (which I do not care for - with all due respect to the craftsmanship it took to make it):

To this (which I do like):

Well, I have a teaser photo for you guys. Turns out a local guy had a 1200 Nightster tank for sale at a price that I couldn't refuse. Perfect timing. Spent some time doing a test fit today, this is what I've come up with so far. Sorry for the crappy photo, my camera doesn't like the light inside the building:

I still need to fabricate the front mounting brackets, get a longer fuel line, wire in the fuel pump, and some other small things, but I was dying to get it on to see what it would look like. Plus it's raining, had nothing else to do.

Just leaving it painted for now, not sure what I'm going to do with it in the end. Might leave it, or just paint the whole thing black. I'll try to roll it outside for some better photos once the sun comes out.

HRK123: Very nice, subtle look. Unique, but suits the overall look of the bike. Nice Job! If you go all satin black it will look awesome too. In the alternative, you could bring that satin silver to the top of the rear and front fenders (not all the way to the front or rear edges) and incorporate a red or gold pinstripe between the black and silver sections. That, I think, has never been done but would be a cool look too. It would keep the black/silver theme your bike has and would bring out the silver tops of the heads versus the black of the cylinders. Just a thought.

(Quote) I ask because I'm considering putting a 4-gallon tank on my crossbones. Yes, I get about 10mpg less so I'll suffer some range, but I'm curious to see how it'll look. The issue is that the sportster tanks use a different fuel pump arrangement, so I can't use my stock pump on the new tank. If the sportster pump works, I'd give it a shot.)

HOW will just by putting on a smaller tank reduce Ur mileage by10 MPG??

Thanks - I'm still undecided, but for now I'll leave it until I get the thing running. I'm still working out all the details with setting the right tank height and getting my seat and rear fender repositioned so it all flows together better.

It won't - my bike gets around 10mpg less than a 1200 sportster by nature - it's a bigger motor. I was saying that I will get less range per tank because of that.

Sir, I want to make manly love to your bike .. AMAZING.. OK.. I am very horny and want to do this now LOL.

Question.. did you clean the Frame neck area yourself ? there is a horizontal bar I seen for sure in that spot on my 2001 Frame ? I saw it clearly when I had the lift on my gas tank a few years back ?

I was going to ask the same question - you can see the bar in my photos above. I assumed it was structural, but if you can remove it I'd do it - looks much better without it.
