I would like to get a GPS (Harley's Zumo series) for my 2011 Heritage Classic. I'd like some opinions as to their effectiveness and dependability before I invest the $$. Do they come complete with maps of the USA, or would I have to purchase additional information for different parts of the country? Anybody have a history with the Zumo?

I used the forum search function to find some information on this awhile back since some "google" search reviews I read complained about the lack of XM support for one of the models. If I recall correctly, they come complete with US maps but one must purchase "updates" though there was an optional lifetime map option. It just seemed like some maps would need to be stored on a card. Try the search function.

I ran the zumo on my cross country in 09. Worked great, only a couple glitches in the Midwest with roads where they weren't, but not bad at all. IMHO, get the regular zumo, not the HD version. Unless you like paying double just to have the Harley shop locations loaded in (and you can do that yourself with the POI function and the interwebs. Lots of preloaded pois out there). I used the RAM mount that it came with and hard wired it. It saw rain, hail, and 115* heat. No issues. And for a couple extra bucks I got the car cradle so I can throw it in my truck too. It's worth it for long trips when you don't know where you are and need to find a good place for a beer!

I bought a Tom Tom One a few years back at Sam's Club for $80. It has limetime maps and I added the Harley POIs for it. I also have the ram mount and hard wired it. Cost was way less that the Zumo.

Buy the Garmin branded unit and save yourself a couple hundred bucks. Look fo9r it on-line and you can save money at many on-line stores. It won't have the HD logo..(big deal) And it does not come with the Dealer listing (available for FREE at POIfactory.com) But otherwise it is the excact same unit. And BONUS...the Garmin brand usually comes with the car adaptor and bike adaptor so you can switch the unit from one to the other. The Harley one does not have the car adaptor and mount.

I bought my Zumo 550 a few years ago, when HD was selling them for over 700.00, I got it for 525 on sale at Costco.com

Shop around...save cash for other mods.

I bought the HD Zumo 665 and got Navweather (9.95/mo.) Saved my *** from plenty of rainstorms. You get one free map upgrade (US). You can get Lifetime map upgrades for $89.00 Also has XM and bluetooth. One glance down and I see who's calling. One of the best investments I've made.

Bluetooth? Wo cares who's calling?!?! I'm riding, my phone is in the bag, if you need me leave a message, I'll call you back when I get around to it. Why does everyone have to be so fuking connected all the time?
