Finally started my bargain mods. Last winter it was apes and pipes off crapbay. This year I picked up a set of tins at the Carlisle PA swap meet and the low profile dash kit from another swap meet. Also picked up crash bar off craigslist. My original tins had a dent in the rear fender from the previous owner. He put very few miles on it but found time to drop a shovel on the fender.
Changing from white to black with red stripe. The black tins were run for about 200 miles in 01 and swapped--boxed up---and put in storage.
Pulled the stock tins off. I thought getting the fuel pump in and out was going to be the difficult part but it wasn’t bad. The top plate did not sit flush without pressing it down…stopped by the stealer and he said it was Ok to just force it down. Also found a couple threads where people had to press to get it to bolt on. So we did and he didn’t charge me anything. Gasket made a good seal. Same year and model tins but the originals did not have the same issue with fuel pump. We will see if it causes any issues.
View from the back.
Crash bar on--tank on--low pro dash assembled and test fit.
Love the look of the dash on there. Can't beat chrome and black. Tho I do plan on using the old tins as my first painting project.
The rear fender is still sitting on the work bench…waiting on new rear sig lights…bolt broke on one of them. It was a good excuse to get smaller bullet style (found set on crapbay---Kuryakyn).
Those of you who are on the fence about wrenching on your own bike…go for it. From the Manuel, YouTube and especially this site I (always good to get one of your buddies) have had success with all my mods. Before this bike I primarily tinkered with cars but was always apprehensive about screwing up my bike.
Yet to be done: Springer style horn, Dynojet PC3 (both off ebay).
Finally got it put back together. Took it for a shake down run on Sat. No leaks or issues at this point. Went from white with dinged rear fender to black (red stripe), low pro dash, and Kuryakin rear sigs (bolt broke on stock ones).
Still need to clean it up...but still looks good with black and chrome.
Nice work Dude, looks and turned out nice. I tell ya, just MHO but that thing would look sick, kick and bad *** with a set of wide whites on them. I am sure I will get many " no ways" on that but I think it would set your scooter off nice and sweet!
