Default '93 Springer Softail

Just picked up my first ever Harley. A 93 Softail Springer. The bike is in fantastic shape for the year and has a modest 25k miles in it. The only thing I am not liking on the bike for the time being is the handlebars. The bars that are on there currently are the stock one, I believe, and they are horribly uncomfortable. The angle my wrists are at is awkward and this then forces my elbows into my sides making it difficult to turn. I am looking to swap out the bars for something that is both more comfortable and better looking. Also, if at all possible, I would like to not have to replace any cables or re-wire. So, what are the tallest bars I could get away with running with out having to extend cables and wires? My guess would be right around 12'', but what would you guys say?

...oh and here are a cpl pics for your clicks

wow, dunno about that year, plus are the bars on it stock?

What kind of bars are you looking for? Apes or drags? I love my T-bars on mine, but had em for awhile and gettin tired of the look a little. Was thinkin about changing to some mini apes or somethin.. dunno yet.

Carlini makes nice bars.... Wild1's chubby bars... theres tons and tons but these two get mentioned lots..

I most likely will be looking for some type of mini ape or z-bar setup. Looking for a total height that will put my shoulders at a right angle or maybe a little higher. Paugcho makes a set of 13" apes that shey show being used with a springer. They look pretty good. May try those out and see where im at. At 13" with the stock risers, is it possible to not have to replace cables and extend wires?

...and yes, to the best of my knowledge, the bars are stock. Looks like I could prolly get a few extra inches out of them and maybe an additional inch or so if I lean them forward.

I put Khrome Werks sweeper bars on my friend's 2001 FXSTS and he loves them, no longer cables required (PN 300503). http://www.khromewerks.com/handlebars.htm

I have 12.5 Wildones on my 2005 Springer (https://www.hdforums.com/forum/membe...-springer.html) which needed longer cables when I put them on. I put tbars on my dad's 00 FXSTS (https://www.hdforums.com/forum/membe...ure8696-a.html) and had to swap out the top clamp on the tree. Didn't need new cables, but braided ones on anyways.

Evo springer - congrats! I can't see the pics, but it will be a fun bike.

I would suggest that you get the bars you really want, regardless of whether or not it requires new cabling. Cables are simple to install, and wiring is a bit of a pain but not difficult. But comfort with the right bars for you is worth it.

Thanks for all the imput guys. I think I am going to end up just biting the bullet and getting 16" nash barsa for it and extending cables and wiring. Figure it will be a good learning experience. Cheers!

One other question I do have is...what do bars going on a springer have to have different than bars going into regular risers? I see a lot of bars are specific to springers, while other are not. Is it the "dimpling" or are they supposed to be "knurled"? Is there any advantage to doing either of these? Sry for the noob questions. lol

dimpling is for your stock switches on your bars 1982 and up use them make sure you get bars with that unless you run no switches on your bars. Its the little in dent under each end of your bar by the switch. Knurled is the ruff bumpy spot on the middle part of your bars where the riser clamp goes. It is very recommended you get bars with them being knurled so your bars are clamped in better and dont move around on ya. Good luck man and have fun with your new bike!

The risers on a springer are further apart then on a standard front fork.
4" compared to 3"

Couldn't see the pics either. I'm sure it looks good though.
