Default Done with the apes.

Well after 200 miles yesterday and numb hands I'm finished with my apes! I love the way they look but I also like to be comfortable on my bike. I had 16 inch apes with 2 inch risers and my hands where numb. I went with wild 1 knuckle bars and hopefully they will be at my door by Thursday. I want to get them on and back to comfort! On and my apes will be on the chopping block with the cables!

just out of curiousity, where were your hands in relation to your shoulders? If they are too high above your heart, they will go numb. Just wondering.

Hope the new bars work for you but I have to disagree with the above statement about apes only looking good. Mine are extremely comfortable. I'm 6' and have 16s as well and don't have any issues at all. It's definitely a personal choice though. Good luck and post some pics.

Might be wrist angle too. My Heritage came with these horrid stock bars that stuck straight out sideways and my wrists hurt after 30 minutes of riding. Pullback is what it's all about. Dumped them first thing.

There are usually two main causes of numb hands or fingers when it comes to apes. Excessive vibration or High Frequency Vibration which can usually be tamed with proper isolation or dampening. Then you have wrist angle. Different bars place your wrists at different angles. The closest you can get to the natural angle of your wrist the better off you are.

I'm in the market for some 16" apes!!! I just bought a 2005 Fat Boy that is in some need of a little TLC. I think some apes would do the job. What kind of bars are you currently running?

BTW, I'm used to riding with 16" on my Sporty and I never had problems with numbness. I actually found it way more comfortable than the stock bars that gave me back problems. But to each his own. I hope your new set does it for you!
