Hello all,
I tried searching but couldnt really find what I was looking for. Later this year I am doing the 107' build with probibly the TW-777 cams and am looking at air cleaners. I am currently running the SE stage 1 intake with a K&N filter and was wondering if there is a better performing set up out there or do they all pretty much perform the same. I was considering the S&S teardrop because I love the look but dont know if there is any performace diffrence. Any thoughts or ideas are welcome.
Thanks,
Michael

Dude, I added the S&S dual runner to my sporty and I am adding to my limited, reason being it works. Yes it takes up space of the awesome v-tw motor, but it looks killer as well, plus the performance on my sporty is killer. I cant wait to add on my limited. I have a great set up for the limited but I think that this intake just smokes the rest. S&S dual air is the BOMB!!!
Ya I am curious also on AC...was told by my mechanic and read a few threads here that there really isn't a difference in hi flow ACs.
Myself am still undecided about an AC...part of me wants to save the football to get a custom engraved inset plate for it. 2 many mods still left for me to do to think about that yet.
Yep. To the best of my knowledge, as long as you have an open-element ( doesn't matter which one) and a KnN, you'll be rockin'. Intakes suck in more air than air can be rammed in, up to a crazy mph anyways.
MoCo chokes out the motor, so as long as you open it up it's alll good.
My resources include two different Dyno shops and my indie. So take it for what it's worth.
Open filter K&N is the best, airflow is everything. Now when you take and cover it up all you do let the engine heat become part of that cover such as the football HD is so fond of. Fresh cool air is what it's all about. Quite a few gonna argue that since looks are everything to them but that is the nitty gritty.
My extremely informal research shows that unless you open up the throttle body, just getting the football cover off and going with some kind of open element AC is about as good as its gonna get.
A "stage 1 free flowing" intake, when properly tuned, is a performance benefit over a stock set up. All properly engineered stage 1 intakes are for the most part equal in performance. Decide on an intake system that has a simple design. I like the Arlen Ness Big Sucker design due to the internal chambered breathers. Clean Set-Up. IMO, the worst is the Kuryakyn Hypercharger. Too Complicated Design, Too Many Parts, with no additional benefits over any other stage 1 on the market.
On my Train I run the Big Sucker with a S&S cover. The S&S cover had to be modified to mount to the single center hole but it works.

What he said!
Most any K&N type filter will flow more air than then engine can use. The one variable is having that air be as cool as possible. The engine will run better with cool air, so not covering the element so the air has to go past the hot fins to get into the engine is key.
Also, not routing the hot oily air from the heads into your air cleaner will give better performance...use an external breather system.
