Angry Chipped paint!!!!

Well I have a 2003 anniversary Deuce with a numbered paint, 95/150. I brought my bike to the Local Dealer to have the SE 180 put on, new front tire, digital fuel gauge/battery meter, and a leaking seal fixed. After all work was finally finished I went to get my bike and first thing i noticed was a damn chip on my tank on the right side in the center and what made me madder than anything is they didn't plan on telling me. I had to bring it up or they was going to let me leave without saying a word. After i brought it up, they told me something flew up and hit it during the test drive. I was extremely upset, but they agreed to fix it without question whenever I want to bring it back. After getting home, i decided to clean it up at take it for a ride. While i was cleaning i found another spot on my rear fender at the very back thats not easily seen, a nick in my chrome by my ignition, and a scratch on my forks. Needless to say I'm extremely angry and scared to bring it back to have them fix the tank now!!!! Just had to vent.

and the dealers wonder why they get a bad rap.. if all the damage is a area they definitely would have been working, i would take it back, point everything out and make them fix it.

Dayum...I wouldnt want to deal with you. Have you any idea how dificult it is to work on a scoot without leavin a small scratch? I hate instabikers. The dealer made a mistake he'll take care of it but when ya start wrenchin your own scoot remember that chit ya just spouted, it'll come back on ya beaucoup times.

yes we all make mistakes, but the difference is whether you own up to them or not. the OP said that they said nothing to him about the damage that apparently they knew they did or they wouldn't agree to fix it.

I've made mistakes over the yrs for sure, but if anything ever happens, just fess up to it. the manager won't get pissed unless its a daily thing and the customer will appreciate the fact that you/the company admit to the mistake and offer the correction without them having to discover it or argue for the repairs to be made.

its all about expectations and customer service.

The point is, they was'nt going to tell me if i wouldn't have brought it up. I do alot of my own wrenchingl. But you would think that they would try to be a little more careful.

It can be hard to work on a bike without occasionally dropping a small part or a screw, but a little bit of care and preparation can prevent that small mistake from causing cosmetic damage. Most of the time, a tank cover, fender cover, moving blanket, shop rag, or even a little bit of painter's tape can all be used as an insurance policy to prevent a drop or slip from causing damage. It's just like a painter using a drop cloth.

People (like me) who really care about cosmetic details need to find people who care about the same things when they get service done. I know I'm in the minority, but there are a lot of us that feel the same way about our bikes.

Interesting, I've only been to two dealers and both have an inspection sheet they go over before you hand it over, they annotate all visble damage etc etc when you pick it up its the same sheet that you verify you are picking it up in the same condition..If you dealer doesnt have something like this maybe you should! I have a custom paint job and have to the conclusion that if I ride it will get damaged but I get your point if they would have been up front with you, you would be starting this thread...

Just goes to show that the dealer isnt above those indie shops we all love. Everyone can make a mistake, and there can be scum bags working at either place. If it is something that bothered you that much, go over thier headds and tell harley, let them decide how to handle their dealers. If not, just pop back in when you can and have them buff out the scratch and touch up the paint.
