Unhappy Loose Spokes???

Went for a 200 mile ride last Monday, no problem. Cleaned the bike Friday, no problem. Left Sunday on a 400 mile round trip, about 150 miles in start getting a wobble. Wobble progressively gets worse, don't know what to do, no shops open Sunday or Memorial day close by. Get home every spoke in rear wheel loose. 6500 miles on the clock 2010 Heritage, 1000 and 5000 mile service done at the dealer. Shouldn't those have been checked and tightened to specs at service? How do they loosen up all of a sudden like that? What to do now? Gotta check my paperwork, is this covered under my warranty? Is my wheel shot? Just got in, I am still in shock a little bit. I thank God that I made it home safe. I need a new rear tire so I will get both issues addressed tomorrow.

They should have been done at the 1k and 5k by the dealer, but in my experience this is something that is notoriously skipped over by the techs.

Only 1500 miles after the interval is a pretty quick time for the spokes to become so loose. You should definitely take it up with the dealer.

Technically speaking it is covered under the warranty if the warranty has not expired. Standard factory warranty is exactly 24 months from the date of purchase, unlimited mileage. According to my dealer it covers everything except tires and oil changes. Extended warranties will also cover it.

Sounds like your good to go then. I was told the other day by the dealer that extended warranties cover everything the standard warranty does except cosmetic.

The same thing happened to me and my buddy on our 2012 FLSTC's at only 800 miles. Luckily, we were only about 5 miles away from my house. We called the dealership and told them what was up. They sent out a tow truck the following day to collect the bikes. The next day the Service Manager called and said that the rims were junk, and it would be awhile before they could replace them, since any and all spoked rims for the bikes were on backorder indefinetly...

Naturally, I found this to be unacceptable, and let him know how I felt in no uncertain terms, and reminded him of the warranty. End result, my friend and I now both have a set of Blade Custom Wheels from Harley...

Your warranty should definetly be able to cover what you need. Good luck!

Its been posted in here many times that we need to check the spokes. I do it every oil change and in the spring.

I had several that wasn't up to snuff when I did it at 16K, Read up on how to do it and done it myself.

And yes, according to the HD service list, they are supposed to be checked at the 1 and 5k service. then every 10k after.

Key word is SUPPOSED to be...

Took it into the dealer, spokes will be tightened, wheel trued and new tire installed. Hopefully I won't be without my scoot long. When I told them I didn't want to pay for the rim work they said they were covered up with work. Probably should have waited till after the work was done to talk price, lol.

It shouldn't matter, even if you don't pay for the work they charge the labor back to the MOCO.
