Default Night Train question...

I just bought a '08 Night Train yesterday and have a few questions...

I love the the drag bars look but being 5'6", the riding position is tough on the shoulders and lower back. I read a few threads here about pullback risers and I like the ones "Wide_Open" has on his bike but I was wondering if there is another option that would keep a similar look since the only thing I see in my mirrors are my shoulders and not what's going on behind me (maybe due to the mirrors being too close to each other??)! That forces me to turn my head around all the time which is not a good thing and painful in the neck area due to me leaning foward on the bike.

Being new here, I can't post in the "Want to buy" section nor send PMs to other members so if anybody has something for sale that could fit my needs and tastes and would be willing to ship to Canada, please let me know!

Secondly, being Canadian, I'm used to KM/H and my Train being from the states, my speedometer is in MPH (trying to get used to that!), is there any way I could change the faceplate in the speedometer to a KM/H one or do I have to change the whole speedometer?

Third, how many miles can I expect to get out of a full tank? I know it depends on driving habits, city/highway mileage but still, I would like to know an "average". Is the fuel guage reliable?

Last...is there anything I should know about Softails or Night Trains in general? Also, is it normal that the seat gets so hot?!!! Drove the bike for 2 hours to bring it back home and there was quite a bit of heat under there!

Thanks!

Have a look at my sig pic, I put the short reach bars from Harley on mine, brings the grips about 5" closer, way more comfortable. I also added the Arlen Ness 3" Control extensions to move the pegs forward. It's all about setting it up to fit you, usually involves lots of "Trial & Error".
Enjoy your new Train, I love mine!

A pull back riser might be better for you and they are cheap and easy to change. Look on eBay for those. I'm 6'4 with the stock bars but I like them. You could also swap your bars for a mini ape setup. I believe a 8" tall bar and a 1.5" riser is about as tall as you can go with your stock wire and cables. Is here a HD dealer close to you? I would think they could swap your speedo out for you no problem. I can see 150 miles on a tank easily on I. Town diving. Good luck and congrats on your new train they are the best bikes HD made but iam biased post up pics of her when you can!

I love my 08 train and I hope you will too. There are so many options out there so stick to the bike and change what you dont like. I used higher risers with a 2" pull back and it puts the bars almost where my friends Mini apes put his hands and the longer pull backs are very comfortable. Still have the drag bar look though. I also lowered the rear end which made the front end a little higher and completely changes the riding position. I know you can add up to 8" on the risers and not have to change the cables. You can also change out the mirrors for a huge selection of aftermarket some guys like the bar end mirrors or even the under the bars set up but you can easily fix the shoulder view problem. As soon as I lowered the rear end that solved the mirror view problem too. As far as the speedo a dealer can change that easily and i ride till the light comes on then refill it, never pay attention to the miles.

I think I'll go with some 8" pullback risers like Wide_Open...seems pretty nice to me.

I love my Train a lot! I really want to keep the drag bar look so the more I think about it, I'll will go with pullback risers, give it a try and go from there.
I never heard of "under the bars" mirrors, just check it on the internet and it doesn't look bad at all. I think I would prefer that to the bar en mirrors.

Thanks a lot for your quick answers guys!

If you can move the pegs foward, does that mean you can bring them closer as well? 2 or 3 inches would be really nice for me...

The under the bars mirrors means just flipping your mirror upsidedown. Just pull it and mount it under the control easy easy mod. I have not hear of takin the forward controls back any. I put the 3" ext on mine cause I'm tall. Maybe you could put a set of mid controls on it??

I have heard about some of the seats out there that push your forward some to maybe help with the reach issue.

With stock drags, you won't be able to flip them under unless you mod the stems, otherwise the mirrors hit the tank. I did that to my stockers awhile back and it works great, just takes a grinder, a welder, and some paint. Might be able to find some very low profile aftermarket ones that'll work, but they are typically not great with the range of view.

You won't be able to move the controls back any. The only option would be to fab up some mid controls, but it's a bit tough to do on a softy.

Welcome to the train club, and like was said, take a trip on over to the train pic thread. We're lookin for someone elses money to spend!
