Hey my bike runs like crud in could weather
I changed the plugs, and warmed it up real good .
I am talking about 30-40 dagree. weather..
also it seemed to have a little bit of white smoke blow by.
I have about 21000 mlies now .
..One fellow at the local bike shop said dont run Harleys in this kind of weather..
I Thought hey my brother road his 45 flathead in the snow to a family X-mas one year..Dont tell me
not to did in could weather..Whats do ya think
You may want to refer to the manual, have you changed the weight of the oil your using. I believe they recomend 10W40 below 40 degrees. Just a thought.
Wild Bill, You said you changed the plugs, Did you use the same heat range? You didn't say if your bike had a Carb. or was F.I. Assuming you have no other mechanical problems a one heat range hotter plug, and or one size bigger carb. jet will make a big difference in cold weather.
What year is your bike? I believe that 06's had some cold injector problems, switched to a different type.
Are you actually riding the bike or just starting it to keep the battery charged? If your not actually going to ride the bike, don't keep starting it just to hear it run, you are going to keep dumping fuel into the motor by running it full rich and wash down the cylinder walls, also contaminating the oil as it will never warm up enough to burn it out.
I have a hard time starting in 30 degree weather, let alone my bike!

Whoever told you not to run a Harley in 30 degree weather is an idiot!
I'll second that. I've logged hundreds of miles on my '07 in 20-30 degree F temps and it always ran like a champ.
BTW, using the "normal" weight motor oil (20W50) in colder temps will only be a problem at startup, if at all. It's not going to have any effect on how your motor runs at normal operating temps.
Shoot, I just screwed 500 screws in my rear wheel so I could ride in a ice storm!!!!! Too cold to ride? If your scared to ride in the cold, I hear those goldwings have heaters, defrosters, coffee makers, foot warmers, heated back massagers.. LOL Just having Fun

That's the "Cooler Season" option on the BMW's not GoldWings. The GoldWing'sback massager isn't heated.
My bike runs absulotly great in cold weather. never had a problem I have logged in quite a few miles in the 30 to forty degree range and it runs strong .
