Default FatBoy Sputtering

I've searched thru here for answers and found some but none said the problem started all of a sudden like mine did . I was in a hurry when I left my girlfriends house and like a dummy forgot to turn my fuel switch on .
It started spttering and I turned it on quickly and started going again but
the sputtering and popping never quit . My plugs are black and sooty but
it was running perfect before this happened . Anybody have any idea what
could have happened . I read in one post that something could be going on with the enricher . I appreciate any help , I'd like to be on the road agin soon . Thanks , Bill

Might be a dumb question, but I'll ask anyway. Do you have a reserve tank? I had a bike (non-Harley) a while back and when I flipped it to the reserve accidentally, it did the same kinds of things for a while. What happened was the reserve side was so full of water and crud (after years of settling and collecting), then when I ran it on that settting, it gunked up the carb and then the carb ended up with water in it. Worth a look if something like that happened.

The reserve is in the same tank , thanks for the info tho . I don't know what could've happened to the carb by letting it almost run out of gas then turn the fuel back on before it quit running . I was pulling
the choke (enricher) out trying to get it to pick up the gas . I guess I'll just go into it and see what I can see .

Change the plugs. If they're sooty, it could be causing your problems. You used the enricher on a warm engine and probably fouled the plugs enough to cause the popping and such.

Default Changed the plugs

No help , it's actually doing more backfiring than sputtering . It only has about 5,000 miles on a factory engine . I can't imagine letting it run almost out of gas could cause this .

Great! I never buy just two. I don't know how many times I've bought a new plug that was bad out of the box. Well, now get out there and put some miles on!
