Default Axle height

Can someone tell me the axle hight on a Softail with a 21" front tire? This would be from the floor to the center of the axle. The length of the for sliders would be helpful as well.

I am changing my Heritage to a 21" and I am trying to figure out what I need to do.

Thanks for any help.

The height will depend on what tire is mounted, as different tires will add to the overall diameter. Overall, I would expect about 1/2" to 1 1/2" TOTAL height difference (floor to top of the tire).

As far as I know, the only thing you should need to change will be the front fender, and maybe spacers, depending on the new wheel/hub.

On my stock Softail Custom with the factory tire properly inflated the center of the axle shaft is exactly 13" up from the ground.

Not sure how much help that's going to be cause like jbt said a lots going to depend on the tire that's mounted on there.

Thanks for the replies. There is acutally more that needs to be done. I need shorter fork tubes so the frame is still level to the ground. I am trying to calculate exactly how much shorter I will need the tubes to be, and knowing the axle height is critical for this.

13". Thanks.

Before you go nuts looking to spend a ton of money on fork tubes I would measure the axle height of your present wheel. I think your going to find that it may bevery close to the 13" that's on myCustom.
The larger diamter wheel (21") and smaller tire combination makes formore of an illusion of a larger overall diameter wheel/tire than it really is.

I believe the 21" wheel with a 120/70 tire should bolt onto a Heritage w/ any mods. You can call Hogpro (forum sponsor) and they'll tell you for sure. Lots of pics with Heritages w/ 21" front wheels in their bike gallery. Those guys are great with the tech questions.

When I went from a 21" to the 16" on my Train, I really couldn't see any difference in how the bike sat. I also was worried about cornering clearance, since I ride pretty fast thru the twisties, but that has not become an issue either. My 16" has a much bigger tire, so that helped the overall effect.
