Default Night train headlight issue

I have a 2007 night train with 4500 miles. I noticed the other day that my low beams are working fine but I've got no high beams. Tried a new bulb, same thing. I tested the light socket on the bike with a meter.... And it seems like I have a short where the wiring goes through the rubber grommet on the back of the housing. Has anyone ever had this issue and is it a common one?

I had the nearly same problem with my '08 NT. On my bike it was not a short but an open - the high beam wire was broken inside the insulation under the tank, I stretched the insulation at the break and cut through the rubber insulation. It looked like the strands had been cut clean, not frayed or stressed??? How that could happen inside the insulation is ??? I soldered the ends together and used heat shrink to cover it up. It works now.
