I went with Big Johnson bars and did not need to extend anything.

I would imagine most people that are changing out the stock Deluxe bars for bars with more pull back would want to change the stock risers out for 1" risers with no pull back. That gives a little more wiggle room for the cables as well.

A cost saving way to do this using factory HD parts is to order the HD kit #46809-09. I just installed this on my 07 Deluxe and kept the stock bars. It literally has transformed my Deluxe. I am in no rush to change bars now. My riding position is vastly improved. There is a huge aesthetic improvement IMO too.
