i have been thinking of chroming the wheels on my fatty. i have found a place that will do them for 500 bucks. is this a good price.. but my real question is if this can cause tire leaks, especially when they get older.. as a auto tech i have seen lots of aluminum wheels that were chromed that leaked due to chipped chrome or rust forming on the seating bead.thanks in advance for any advice
i dont have problem with the work this chrome shop has done for me in past, but was wondering about tire leaks or chipping. i like the stock wheels fine, but chrome ones might ge cool if it dont cause other issues.maybe ill just polish.see what happens
It'd be the first I ever heard of it. On my old bike, when we pulled the tire, the old chrome was coming off the insides of the wheel flanges in big flakes, but I had absolutely no leaking.. Not to say it couldn't happen but that was a crap chrome job.. I imagine a better chrome job should be worry-free. Keyword "should", of course.
Nice fatboy there.. I've seen one like that... somewhere.
Just a quick note on peeling. If the plate house does its job properly with the cleaning and the applying of the various coatings it will not peal. most peeling takes place as a result of poor adhesion cause by bad rinseing of the various processes.
ill probably try to polish and see if i like that, then chrome if that dont work out. hey babs. got a nice set of rear axle bolt covers that would look good on your scoot.new hd. never installed

if Babs doesn't hit on those axle covers I might....depending on which ones they are(HD p/n?)
